Belly dancer Ansuya performed in our first show at the Ford Theater in Hollywood. I believe it was 2003. Wow! Can’t believe it’s been that long. Great belly dancing performance. I think she ended the first half of the show before intermission. The DVD of the show is available under the name “Belly Dance!” Here’s a photo from that show.
I have no words that can quite express what I feel but I wanted to communicate somehow to all my dearest family and friends that I am so greatly grateful to all the love we are receiving from you. Amir, Omayma, Louvaine and I , as well as the whole family are warmed by all the love and we thank you very much. It has been a shock to all of us and a colossal loss. We are eternally grateful to everyone that helped and shared this unreal moment with us. Amir and I are here in Brasil still fulfilling Hossam’s wishes and taking care of everything.
I am honoured to have lived a life of so much love and adventures with one amazing man and to have had the chance to have this last one adventure this life time . However hard this one has been, I would not have wanted any other way. We said we would have each other for eternity and this is how it will always be.
I am Grateful and proud for the most incredible and amazing son we have. That was by far our greatest creation and collaboration this life time. And for the two daughters I was gifted with by him, whom I love so much. We are grateful beyond words, to our Brazilian family, Dani, Fernanda, Dona Gloria, Claudio and the whole Cardoso family for their unconditional love and support that has been far and above anyone could expect. Could not have done without you. To Shiva, Nico, Maryanne, Yameet, Philip, Tiziano Lorraine, Bonita, Carmélia and Simone for incredible emotional support. And to Kahina and Munira for their care, support and affection to Hossam. These acts of kindness will never be forgotten and are truly appreciated. All the kindness you gave us will return 1000 times back to you all.
But mostly I wanna thank you Hossam for a life of incredible beauty, love, craziness, intensity, peace, laughter, tears of sadness and joy, amazing art and so much more. I look forward our adventures in the future. I do know it will be hell of a ride again! With all my love eternally. Serena
Terrible news. We lost a legend today. 😥 Hossam Ramzy was a famous Egyptian percussionist and composer. He worked with Western artists like Jimmy Page and Robert Plant as well as with Arabic music artists like Rachid Taha and Khaled. But most importantly he was a musician well known to all belly dancers. Huge loss to the music world. He will forever be remembered through his musical legacy.
One of our shows at the Ford Amphitheater called Belly Dance Live featured the wonderful and multi-talented Habib. I just ran across this great photo of her today and thought I would share.
This photo is likely from the early 1900s. Likely from a dance company during that time frame. Love the costumes. Almost looks like Egyptian Ghawazee dancers. Or maybe an early Hollywood film. Wanted to share this photo, love the look.
Here’s a copy of the Tolucan Times about the 2nd Awards of Belly Dance back in August of 1998. It was the first show we presented at Cal State Northridge Performing Arts Theater – which would be the start of a long relationship with them and Dave Pier who was the manager of the theater there at that time. The Tolucan Times was always good to us and gave us coverage anytime we presented a belly dancing show in the area. Thank you TT and Dave Pier. That’s a fabulous photo of Mesmera taken by Keith Drosin. FYI – we have this show available on DVD in our store. 🙂
While going through boxes of my stuff recently I came across this CD. When this CD was released Harry Saroyan had a CD release party. He autographed it to my then alter ego “SleezAnna”. I believe this was in 1994. Great memories!
